Oh de London! by Yardley c1965

Oh de London was launched by Yardley in 1965. Yardley made a special "English" perfume for the American market, a 'frisky-frilly fragrance full of tender flowers'.

"Yardley Oh de London. Scent yourself unforgettable with the new wildflower scent of jasmine, rosebuds and young clover"

Oh de London came in Splash Cologne, Spray Mist Cologne, natural Spray Cologne, Perfume Veil, Luv Bubbles, Luv Dust powder mitt, After Bath Freshener, Perfumed Skin Cream, Perfume Cake, Talc, Foaming Bath Gelee, Soap on a Rope, and deodorant.
  • The Perfume Veil was a frosted body lotion that scented and smoothed the skin.
  • Luv Bubbles were a water foam bath of softening bubbles.
  • The Perfume Cake was a scented dusting powder in a pressed cake form.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It was classified as a floral woody fragrance for women.

  • Top notes: aldehydes, violet, bergamot, sage, chamomile, clover
  • Middle notes: geranium, clove, rose petals, violet, lily-of-the-valley, ylang-ylang, nutmeg, heliotrope, jasmine
  • Base notes: sandalwood, styrax, cedar, vanilla, oakmoss, vetiver

You might remember seeing pretty model Jean Shrimpton as the mod gal sporting the "London Look" on their advertisements.

Fate of the Fragrance:

Oh de London seems to have been discontinued by 1975.

Currently, Irma Shorell bought the rights to the name and offered their "version" of the perfume, though by reviews I have read, it doesn't smell like the original Oh de London from Yardley. It has been released as Oh de London by Tuvache, this apparently does not smell like the original perfume, its cloying and overly sweet

Irma Shorell/Tuvache's version has the following notes:
  • Top notes of violet, bergamot, Russian sage,Roman chamomile.
  • Middle notes of Chinese geranium, clove bud, rose petal, violet, lily of the valley, ylang-ylang, nutmeg, heliotrope.
  • Base notes of Sandalwood, stryax, Virginia Cedar, vanilla bean, oakmoss, vetiver.
